House Renovation Project in Vitoria
1999/2001

This project involves the rehabilitation of two small buildings to be used for a painter's home and studio, located on a 408 m2 lot. The main building is attached to an adjacent construction sharing a common roof.
There is a protection ordinance on the house that prevents the modification of the exterior volume.
The proposed solution contemplates the interior empty space of the building, respecting the exterior volume. To resolve the lack of surface area, 55 useable m2, a basement has been dug.
The new house is structured around a cross section along its entire height, which is manifested on the façade and solves the problem of insufficient lighting. It divides each floor into two parts, the first floor with two bedrooms and the ground floor with an eat-in kitchen and living room, and on basement level, baths and guest room.
The permeability of the façade provides ample indoor lighting and marks the meeting point of home and garden
